The Hardtip Hand Set is applied to the flat smooth surface of the stone only. The blade must be entirely on this surface. It is used at a slight angle and struck with a hand hammer to remove excess stone, bringing it down to the desired size. (If a finished edge is desired, the chipper is then used after this tool.)
